BluMetric in partnership with Det’on Cho (DCC) has been contracted to operate and maintain the existing Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) as part of the Giant Mine Remediation Project (GMRP). Surface water and contaminated water from the mine are collected in a tailings pond and treated to meet the stringent criteria established by regulatory authorities to protect human health and the surrounding environment.

BluMetric and DCC are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the plant to manage pond levels at the site. Staff compliment included Operators, Health and Safety Officers and Supervisors to manage the treatment program. Most of the site workforce is locally hired and trained, including many local Indigenous operators.

The ETP was successfully operated 24/7 seasonally (May to October) under optimized conditions and close to the maximum plant capacity, with effluent water quality well below discharge criteria and exceeding the required target volume.
