Scott A. MacFabe, PHg, PG

Chief Executive Officer

Scott joined the Company as CEO on March 1, 2018. Prior to becoming CEO of the Corporation, he was President/COO of the Industrial and Environmental Division of Kennedy Jenks Consultants, a privately held Water and Environmental consulting firm based in San Francisco from November 2012 to February 16, 2018.

From 2002 to 2012, Mr. MacFabe was a Partner and Director at Malcolm Pirnie, managing the Industrial Business for the Firm. As part of that tenure, the Firm was merged with Arcadis in 2009. He was responsible for integrating the Industrial consulting business with the Arcadis portfolio, leading Canadian operations and holding the position of Executive VP of North American Strategic Initiatives.

From 1985 to 2002, Mr. MacFabe was a Senior Hydrogeologist and Officer at Dames and Moore. He is a hydrogeologist and holds both professional hydrogeology and geology accreditations.

Vivian Karaiskos, CPA, CA

Chief Financial Officer

Vivian heads up the Finance group within BluMetric, and wields responsibility for the financial, reporting, accounting, and information systems functions as well as overseeing human resources. With more than 20 years of financial and business experience, Vivian most recently served as VP, Finance, of a diversified private real estate development company, and has an extensive background in financial information systems, business analysis, financial reporting, and governance.

Dan L. Scroggins

Senior Vice President – Research & Innovation

Dan has 35 years of experience in the water and wastewater treatment field, having participated in hundreds of projects around the globe. An innovator in his field, he has been involved in almost every aspect of the business, from the formation of several companies to the creation of a national sales organization, the development and introduction of new products to a national market, and the consolidation of several companies into one integrated entity. His management experience includes taking a small entrepreneurial company from its inception to IPO on NASDAQ. He has also served as the general manager of a $15,000,000/year division of a publicly traded corporation, streamlining the operation and increased profitability by focusing on strengths, reducing costs, and expanding the product offering.

Dan has the technical expertise required to understand and evolve the process and equipment employed in the water and wastewater field.

Lydia Renton, B.Sc., CIH, ROH, FAIHA

Director – Corporate Occupational Hygiene and Safety

Lydia has over 30 years of global experience in the practice of occupational hygiene and safety. She is very familiar with the practical applications of regulations related to health and safety in Canada and many jurisdictions worldwide, having worked for Labour Canada (now HRSDC), Health Canada, and the Ontario Ministry of Labour. She was corporate Industrial Hygienist for Bell-Northern Research, and EHS Manager for Nortel Semiconductors. Since 1999, she has focussed on the OHS consulting practice and internal processes at BluMetric Environmental Inc. She has served on several Boards, including WESA, Ontario’s WHSA, past President of the CRBOH, Past-Chair of the ABIH Board of Directors, and AIHA Fellows SIG. Lydia was awarded the 2008 Hugh Nelson Award of Excellence by OHAO, recognized as an AIHA Fellow in 2014, and as an AIHA Distinguished Lecturer in 2016. Lydia’s focus is a practical exposure judgement and risk-based approach to mitigating hazards.

Geoff Simonett (Chair), BComm.

Mr. Simonett is an accomplished entrepreneur with more than two decades of experience operating and financing early-stage companies. As an operator, Mr. Simonett has founded, built, and successfully exited five companies in industries including software, marketing, and financial services. As an investor, advisor, or board member, Mr. Simonett has participated in dozens of companies, primarily in IT and cleantech. Mr. Simonett is currently an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the RIC Centre in Mississauga, and is also a board member at Method Integration as well as acting as consultant / mentor to multiple early-stage technology companies.

Ian Macdonald, M.Sc., P.Geo., EP (CEA)

Mr. Ian Macdonald is a professional geoscientist and certified environmental auditor. He has been with BluMetric and its affiliates for more than 34 years working in the earth science and auditing fields. Mr. Macdonald was Director of WESA UK from 1990 to 1993 and a Director for the WESA Group Inc. between 2008 and 2012. He is currently a client manager and project manager for multiple sites in multiple jurisdictions across Canada in the areas of contaminant hydrogeology and remediation, source water protection, waste management and management systems. Mr. Macdonald is a Past President of the PGO (Professional Geoscientists Ontario), has been a member of numerous municipal and institutional advisory committees, and has a wide understanding of the professional service sector

Jane Pagel, MSc, ICD.D.

Ms Pagel has held numerous executive positions in both government and the private sector. She was selected to be part of Canada’s Diversity 50 2013 list of board candidates, and has served on many public, private, and not-for-profit boards. She was interim president and CEO at Sustainable Development Technology Canada from June 2014 to June 2015. Prior to that, she was president and CEO of the Ontario Clean Water Agency from 2010 until her retirement in early 2014. Previous industry positions held by Ms Pagel include Principal Government and Industrial Relations at Stantec; Senior Vice President and Principal at Jacques Whitford; Vice President Government Relations at Philip Services; and president of Zenon Environmental Laboratories.

Jeffrey Talley

Lt. Gen. Jeffrey W. Talley is a retired three-star general of the U.S. Army, with over 34 years of active and reserve military service. Jeff is currently Vice President, Global Public Sector, IBM Global Markets, where his activities range from advising on strategic goals and issues, mergers and acquisitions, and business development. He is also a Global Fellow at the IBM Center for the Business of Government. Jeff also holds a faculty appointment as a Professor of the Practice in the Price School of Public Policy & Viterbi School of Engineering and Scholar-in-Residence, Brittingham Social Enterprise Lab, Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California (USC). Prior to his current appointments, he was an Advanced Leadership Fellow and Cabot House Scholar-in-Residence at Harvard University. Jeff received his Ph.D. in Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and his Executive M.B.A. from the University of Oxford, England. He holds multiple master’s degrees in engineering, strategic studies, liberal arts, and religious studies. He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), a Board-Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE) in Sustainability, and a Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE).

Board Committees

There are two permanent Board committees:

  1. The Audit Committee (consisting of Geoff Simonett (Chair), Jane Pagel, and Jeff Talley), which assists the Board of Directors in carrying out its responsibilities relating to corporate accounting and financial reporting practices. This committee reviews BluMetric’s quarterly and annual financial statements, internal controls, and the engagement and advice of the Corporation’s auditors, reporting back to the Board of Directors.
  2. The HR and Governance Committee (consisting of Jeff Talley (Chair), Ian Macdonald, and Jane Pagel), which is responsible for personnel matters, including performance, compensation, executive and Board succession planning, monitoring Board member effectiveness and performance, governance issues, and disclosure policies. This committee reviews all senior compensation and the Company’s overall compensation model, including incentive awards and implementation.
