BluMetric has provided services to Waste Management Inc. (WM) and its predecessor companies for more than 35 years as a prime consultant at several landfill facilities. Current and past projects have included the following at several sites:
As an example, BluMetric has worked with WM to fulfill the requirements of the ECA for the West Carleton Environmental Centre (WCEC) landfill site, located near Ottawa, including an amended ECA which included an expansion area with a four (4) million tonne capacity to the existing closed site. BluMetric has provided technical expertise, including a hydrogeological investigation to establish the baseline conditions and evaluate the potential impacts on groundwater quality, the development of a new Environmental Monitoring Plan (EMP) and best management practises, and the development and implementation of a health and safety program for the existing and expanded site. BluMetric has continued as the lead environmental consultant at the WCEC, with responsibility for the extensive EMP compliance and reporting requirements, including assessment against site specific reasonable use limits (RUL), action levels, trigger levels, Provincial Water Quality Objectives (PWQO) and Ontario Drinking Water Standards and Operational Guidelines (ODWSOG).
Similarly, BluMetric has been the lead environmental consultant at the Richmond landfill site, located in Greater Napanee, conducting hydrogeological investigations in support of the closure plan, definition of the contaminant attenuation zone (CAZ), and development of post-closure EMP. BluMetric has been providing hydrogeological and environmental engineering services at the Richmond facility for over 30 years, including compliance monitoring, baseline conditions and impact assessments, and operational site support.
BluMetric has also been involved on active and closed landfill facilities in Quebec for almost 20 years, including the assessment of potential impacts to groundwater and surface water from polychlorinated biphenyls (PBCs), compliance monitoring, development and implementation of post-closure plans, as well as care and maintenance activities.
